OSET October 2012
Newsletter
October 7th at 2 pm (Gray community center) will
be the next meeting date for OSET. Our Speaker will be the fabulous Tom Harper of Stone River Orchids. He
will be speaking on Phalenopsis and will have plants to sell. Tom is current President of the International Phalenopsis Association
one of its founding members. He will be bring us information on new things
going on in the world of Phalenopsis and share cultural information tailored to
our growing conditions in East Tennessee.
Hostess
Table
Sandy Heaton has one person volunteering for the the
hostess table in October. Trish Jenkins will
bring a salty snack. OSET needs a volunteer to bring a sweet snack. If anyone
can do this for October, please email tpfletcher@charter.net
and I will pass the information on the Sandy Heaton.
Sandy tells me we have no one signed up for the November
meeting. Please see her at the meeting and sign up to bring a salty or sweet
snack to one of our meetings.
Upcoming
events
Nov.

This is a great opportunity to sell/trade your extra divisions that might be
taking up room in your growing space. It is also a nice time to pick-up a new
orchid or two. It is a fun social event as well!
Dec.9
th - OSET Annual Christmas Party at the Earl's house in Kingsport.
Remember that everyone who has paid their dues for 2013 will receive a free in
bloom or budded orchid.
Just
for Fun
I posted this link on OSET’s face book
page the other day and am posting it here for non -face book users. The link is
to a book review on a new orchid book published that tells the story of Michael
Kovach and the Peruvian Phrag that he brought back to the states and had named
after him.
“ The title of this new book by Craig
Pittman, "The Scent of Scandal: Greed, Betrayal, and the World's Most
Beautiful Orchid," is designed to catch the reader's eye but it is not to
be taken literally.”
Submissions for the newsletter will be welcomed! Please email your
